FAQ

What do I need to bring?

  • A copy of up to date vaccinations for distemper and bordetella. (Ask your vet for the distemper/bordetella combo)
  • Completed boarding contract. http://mvph.ca/downloads
  • We provide everything needed for your pet’s stay, but a favourite toy or blanket can make them settle in easier.
  • Bring their regular food to avoid an upset stomach due to a change in diet. We can cater for any diets, including raw but this needs to be supplied.
  • Please don’t send bowls. They will not be used to avoid getting them mixed up.
  • Medications. Francesca can administer any medications.

What are your hours of operation?

All arrivals and departures are by appointment only between 10am-12pm and 2pm-6pm Monday to Saturday. Sunday by special arrangement.

Do you offer a pick up and drop off service?

Yes, services for Squamish, Whistler and North/West Vancouver are available. See our boarding rates page for details. http://mvph.ca/rates

How often do you feed your guests?

Depending on your pet’s normal routine, normally once or twice per day.

I have two or more dogs. Can they stay togther?

Yes. We have double kennels suitable for 3 small or 2 large dogs.

How often are the dogs allowed outside?

Almost all day if they want to run around and play. They are always supervised and have a large play area with open access to their runs.

Do they all sleep together?

No. We do not believe communal sleeping arrangements are suitable for all dogs. As security and comfort is paramount, each night they sleep in their own individual kennel.

Can my dog stay if they are not “fixed”?

We decide this on a case by case basis. It is not problem if they are a puppy less than 5 months old. Please contact us in all other cases so we can discuss the options.

Can I visit my dog?

We do not recommend this. Your dog can take time to settle in to their new surroundings. Visiting can cause distress and extend the time it takes for them to feel at home.

Is your kennel heated or air conditioned?

Yes. There is a forced air heating system for the winter and it is naturally cool in the summer.

What happens if my dog gets sick or injured?

We have a great relationship with a vet that is available to us 24/7 for any sort of care. Francesca has the training and knowledge to spot any signs of illness and treat as required.

Do you administer medication?

Francesca can provide most medication to any of our guests as required. Please advise us in advance of any medication they are on and bring a supply with you.

Is the exercise area fenced?

Yes. The entire area is enclosed with a 7′ fence. Be wary of most kennels that have 6′ fences if your dog likes to jump.

Do you take the guests for walks?

Yes, with all the trails nearby, there’s an endless number of new places to explore.

What if a dog becomes aggressive?

The safety of all the guests is paramount. If any dog shows any signs of aggression they will be exercised separately. If they show continued aggression, they may be asked to leave.

Are there any breeds you do not allow?

We want balanced dogs, regardless of the breed. Most people label dogs. Sometimes fairly, based on what they read in the media, sometimes not.

In the 70′s, they blamed Dobermans, in the 80′s they blamed German Shepherds, in the 90′s they blamed the Rottweiler, now they blame the Pit Bull.

One of the best dogs we have looked after was an unfixed male Rottweiler called Turbo. His owner, a young woman, had trained him to be a balanced dog and he was amazing. All dogs are assessed on a case by case basis.

What if my dog barks excessively?

We understand that boarding can be stressful for some dogs. Barking is part of any kennel facility, but excessive barking due to poor training or aggression can disrupt the other guests and the barking dog may be asked to leave if the problem persists.
